Loving ourselves can be hard at times, and relaxing can seem impossible, but being cozy can help with those!
1. Update that Closet
Over the last couple years I have definitely worked on loving myself as it’s been a struggle. My first tip is to update your clothing. I kept clothes that fit me in my skinnier days and found that they took up wasted space in my closet because I loved the pieces, yet couldn’t fit in them. They brought me joy and anguish! It was a constant reminder that I couldn’t fit them and I would turn to feeling upset looking at my body in the mirror.
So what I did was donated every piece that didn’t slide on with ease. Even the expensive or the barely worn stuff. Alternately you can sell the items or find a way to trade! Surprisingly I was not left with an empty closet nor was I left without a complete wardrobe. I found a beautiful assortment of pieces that I could pick up at any time and create many outfits still. I also found the budget to add some clothing that I was putting off having, like jeans. I already had jeans, but could never wear them!
So seriously, just keep what works for your beautiful body! It’ll keep you feeling cozier if you’re wearing what’s fits.
2. Blankets, Blankets, and Slippers
I have no idea how I would relax without my blankets! Having a super soft throw and a thick duvet that keep my legs warm and are things to cuddle up with are stellar for cozy. If you want, they can look stunning as décor for your home too. Double win!
I personally have three throw blankets that match my couches and are the softest I could find, (Here is my favourite one) because I cannot be without warmth and cuddles. Wrapping my legs up in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and a good movie on Netflix is hella self care!
Next is slippers. If I’m correct, you have at least one room in your house that is not carpeted, or your entire place doesn’t have carpet. Or I mean, even if you do ha
ve carpet, who wants to step on a cold surface? Slippers save the day! My feet tend to not get the love they deserve so the easiest way I have found to give them some TLC is to have lovely footwear. Get yourself a pair of slippers that fit your aesthetic (mine are from Glow Recipe, cause skincare is life!), have a cushiony bottom and are soft. I wanted a pair SO BAD I found online, but deal was up because in store they were not silky soft. This is crucial.
3. Scent is Everything
For years I was not worrying about the scent of my home and my safe spaces (like my bedroom or car) and I was missing out. Personally I discovered essential oils over candles, but candles add that extra level of cozy with the aesthetically pleasing soft glow of the flame and the flicker. I just find I feel more safe with diffusers and essential oils since I can be forgetful!
So, every morning, find a scent that makes you feel how you want to feel. Whether it’s cozy, sexy, fresh or beachy. You can wear body sprays, perfumes, body lotions and body oils that have the exact scent you need to feel good about you on any given day. Vanilla is a huge one for my since I prefer warm and cozy, and I swear by this perfume from Atelier Cologne.
Then, throughout the day, refresh your scent and scent up your surroundings. At work it might be tough, but hand lotions are great because you can apply it, cup your hands over your face and breathe in! At home, diffusers, candles, waxes, reeds- get them going! I suggest citrus for uplifting, vanilla for cozy and lavender for relaxing or sleeping.
Speaking of lavender, find your perfect way to incorporate the scent of lavender at night - you’ll sleep more soundly, I swear!
There you are! Three tips to help love yourself, relax and stay cozy.
Much Love,
