What makes a good bubble bath? What do you need to create the perfect self care and relaxing evening? Let me tell you!
Bubble baths have always been one of my favourite things to do no matter how I’m feeling, but especially so when I’m feeling anxious, tense or sad. They are the pinnacle of self care and the beauty industry has mastered what you need to make the perfect bath.
1. Epsom Salts
When you think of bath products, the first ingredient is Epsom salt, and for good reason. Sprinkling a cup of these salts into a warm bath relaxes the muscles deeply, gives you a dose of calming and anti-inflammatory magnesium and even gently exfoliates your skin. I love that you can buy a massive tub for a couple bucks at the drugstore, scented or unscented, and you can have the easiest most calming bath instantly! You don’t necessarily need those tiny jars of expensive salts to reap the benefits. If you love those little jars for the aesthetic, refill it with the cheaper stuff or buy a beautiful jar and a glass marker label and boom! Pretty packaging.
2. A Drink
My second tip is to ensure you’re staying hydrated. I personally love flavoured ice water in a large cup with a straw. You can drink as little or as much as you need and you stay hydrated and you help regulate your temperature if the bath gets too hot. A glass of wine is honestly a staple in most people's evening or bath routines and I love the idea of a beautiful glass of wine next to some bubbles. Just make sure you get some water in there since you could get tipsy pretty fast! Having a sip of something you love will elevate the experience for sure.
3. Set Aside the Right Amount of Time
Making sure you have an ample amount of time before and after your bath will ease your mind even more. Don't try to have a bubble bath in the morning before work, you’ll be thinking about the day ahead and be worried whether you have enough time to get ready. Evenings are best, but not your only option. A Sunday morning can also be exquisite! Having enough time to truly let your mind and body at ease is crucial. You want the experience to follow with you for the rest of the evening or day. If you’re bathing to help sleep, don’t bathe too late or you’ll be worried about getting enough sleep. Enjoy the full experience! 20 minute baths are pretty typical, but you can always have a longer one- you just may need a splash or more of hot water to top you up!
4. Clean Your Tub
Clean it before you get in! Doesn’t have to be right before, but make sure your tub is clean. It’ll feel less distracting if you don’t have hair stuck to the side of the tub or goopy shampoo in the corners. Clean spaces help with a clean mind! Plus, you’re in there to feel clean and pretty, not gunky.
5. Use this time to your Advantage
A bubble bath is time for you, period. No need to use it to catch up on emails or read news articles (unless that’s therapeutic to you or course). This is the time to crack open that romance novel, your favourite movie on Netflix or time to be quiet or meditate. Be selfish and lock the door to avoid interruptions. Put that phone on silent. Be in peace during this time. You’ll reap the benefits a thousand times more!
Bonus Tip: Get creative!
When I was younger, I loved DIYing baths. They usually turned out horrible, but it was a fun experiment! You can add all the bubbles, bath bombs, salts, powders, soaks and milks you want. Even flower petals if you love them! I remember googling the Cleopatra milk bath and really enjoying that one.
Now venture off you bath loving people! Get that much needed relaxation in and enjoy your time.
Much Love,
Erin, xo
