Skincare is nothing without a clean slate. Washing your first is the essential first step to healthy glowing skin! Here’s my three best tips to maximize your cleansing routine.

1. Double Cleanse

I know this may sound like a lot, but honestly you won’t notice the difference in time and your skin will thank you. Making sure you’re removing all the makeup, dirt, pollution, sunscreen and access oils from the day will help immensely in clearing up the skin. The easiest way I‘ve found to double cleanse is to start with an oil based cleanser. This can be a cleansing oil or a cleansing balm, I like the one from Farmacy and from Dermalogica. The oil will go on your skin dry with dry hands and once rubbed gently into the skin, you’ll see everything start to dissolve and move around. After all the mascara is dissolved or it’s been 1 minute, wash it away or remove gently with a face towel. Second you’ll use your normal face wash, like a gel, milk or foam. Anything water based will do for that second cleanse. Make sure it’s suited to your skin type! Double cleansing in your evening routine specifically will show a big improvement the quickest.

2. Wash Your Face for a Whole Minute

Again, this may seem like a lot for your routine, but trust me, the process will reveal the outcomes you want. Your cleanser may be expensive and have phenomenal ingredients, so why would you want it on your face for only 15 seconds? 60 has been shown to be most effective as it works to break down the built up gunk in the pores best and the ingredients have that ample amount of time to work. So, 60 full seconds morning and night! Once I started doing this, I noticed my skin was significantly softer after only a couple washes! You feel this difference before you see it.

3. Make Sure Your Wash is Suited to Your Skin Type.

The easiest way to determine your skin type is to do a test. Wash your face, dry it or air dry and then leave it for 10 minutes. No touching and no products. If your skin is oily all over, oily skin. If it feels tight or even has some flakes, dry. If your forehead is oily and your cheeks are tight, you’re combination. There are other factors such as acne, eczema, rosacea and sensitivity to take into account. For example, I’ll use my skin type - dry and sensitive. My skin gets immediately tight and it gets red (sensitivity). So I opt for a very gentle cleanser with minimal to no fragrance and that helps hydrate my skin. The HoliFrog Tashmoo Milky wash is my go to, I also love the Allies of Skin one. My Fiancé on the other hand, is acne prone with oily skin, so we got him a gel wash with salicylic acid. Salicylic acid being the acne fighter and the gel being a suitable form for oilier skin. Even if you need a more moisturizing or hydrating wash, don’t worry, your skin is still getting clean! For more info on picking the right cleanser, please look up HoliFrog here, they do what‘s called situational cleansing!

There you are, now your ready to tackle your cleansing routine and begin the first step to the clear glowing skin you want!

Much Love,
